Turkish elections and Athens – How the government is attracting Erdogan’s announcements
THE Recep Tayyip Erdogan essentially yesterday, speaking at a meeting of the AKP party As May 14 will be the day of presidential and parliamentary elections in the neighboring countrysuch as “K” had noted since last Tuesday.
The reasonable question after this development is whether they can elections in Turkey to influence the dual national elections in Greece.
An existing scenario is that Turkey holds a second round of elections, if any of the presidential candidates fails to get the “50% plus 1” vote required.
In this case, the second elections in Turkey will be held one week later, on May 21. Maximou knows what all the analysts point out: in this case the week between May 14 and 21 will look like a “devil’s week”, as the nationalists in Turkey will have a role of regulator and the Turkish president may need a demarcation to reach in the electoral victory.
With this as a possibility, experienced sources note that the safest national scenario is for the elections in Greece to be completed on May 14 and for Greece to have a government.
Elections and… Olympus
The possibility of holding both the presidential elections in Turkey and the second election in Greece on May 14 has been considered at Megaros Maximos.
In this scenario, April 9 would be the date of the first election and five weeks later, on May 14, the second. However, the sources of Maximos note that Kyriakos Mitsotakis “does not identify himself” and do not believe that there is a fear of a heated episode, while they consider that it might be better for the polls in Turkey to precede the Greek ones.
Anyway, Mr. Mitsotakis has long announced that May is the month of elections, whether they are the first or the second. May 14 as the time of the elections was also photographed yesterday by Kyriakos Mitsotakis, during his tour of Korydallos. Talking to a mountaineer, he told him he wanted to climb Mount Olympus, adding the line “in May, after the elections” showing that he already had the election deadlines in mind.
The question, of course, is what happens if after the second elections – in the event that they are held on May 14 – we do not have an independent government. In this case, the possible repeat elections in Turkey will coincide with the exploratory ones in Greece. The Sources of Megaros Maximos note, however, without going into the process of dates, as the country after the second election will have a government on the same night.
Procedural, such as an experienced lawyer notes in “K”., the swearing-in of the new cabinet can also take place on Monday, May 15. In any case, even if no self-governing government emerges after the second election, the country has a five-week caretaker government that will be able to manage a crisis.
