Region | Pension reform: Marseille, Arles, Avignon, Digne… The figures of the demonstrations in Provence
They were there. Tens of thousands of Provençals marched this morning against the pension reform at the call of all the trade unions. Back in figures on a morning of mobilization.
Several tens of thousands in Marseille
In the Marseille city, it is a human tide divided into two processions (one at the Porte d’Aix and the other to the Reformed) which beat the pavement. The police headquarters revealed the number of demonstrators at 26,000 while the unions advanced the number of 145,000. Difficult to give a precise figure, the truth is certainly between these two values. When the two processions joined, the first demonstrators had already arrived at Place Castellane while the last had not yet turned onto Cours Lieutaud. This thus makes it possible to underline that the procession extended over more than 2 kilometres. By way of comparison, those who were present on December 5, 2019 and January 19, 2023 found that the demonstrators were much more numerous this Thursday.
Historic mobilization in Avignon
The Vauclusiens, themselves, had made an appointment in Avignon where the mobilization was historic. According to the organizers, 15,000 demonstrators took part in one of the most important demonstrations of the last twenty years in the city of the popes.
One of the biggest gatherings for five years in Digne
In Digne-les-Bains, we also witnessed one of the largest gatherings in five years. Police count 3,500 protesters and unions claim 6-7,000 in the prefecture of Alpes-de-Haute-Provence.
A few thousand in Arles
In Arles too, we had not seen so many people manifesting themselves in the streets for a long time. This morning they were 2,000 according to the police and 3,000 according to the unions.
