Banco di Napoli Foundation: meeting on the sartorial tradition in the shadow of Vesuvius. Here’s how to revive it
“The men’s tailoring tradition in Naples between the modern and contemporary ages”, this is the title of the meeting that took place at the headquarters of the Banco di Napoli Foundation, chaired by Orazio Abbamonte. During the discussion, the proposal was made to create a men’s tailoring art school for the young people of the city, which would transmit traditional knowledge and teach that ancient craft capable of making Made in Naples clothes fascinating and recognizable. At the center of the debate the art of silk, history, economy, from the 16th century to the present day, through the study of archival papers and the story of two books: Giovan Battista Manso entrepreneur and the silks of Real Monte Manso of Scala by Bianca Stranieri (Editori Paparo) and Stitched on. The Tesorone collection: a century of bourgeois collecting by Nadia Barrella (Luciano Editore). The study day was attended by Orazio Abbamonte, Giulio Sodano, professor of Modern History and director of the DiLBeC of the University of Campania Luigi Vanvitelli, Giancarlo Maresca, President of the “Mani di Napoli” association, who work the textile artisans, Silvana Musella Guide, art historian, Gaia Salvatori, professor of contemporary history at the Luigi Vanvitelli University, Sonia Scognamiglio, professor of Institutional History at the Parthenope University. After the meeting, the participants visited two exhibitions: “On canvas and paper” dedicated to Baroque art and “Kosmo”, four photographic works by Federica Gioffredi set among ancient archival papers.
