Bologna – A traditional and constant cooperation relationship, that between the Emilia-Romagna Region and it State of San Marinothanks to Technopole is destined to open up to new scenarios of fruitful collaboration.
It confirms it visit to the Bologna Technopole from Fabio Righi, Secretary of State of San Marino for industry, crafts and commerce, technological research and regulatory simplification.
Accompanying him this afternoon was the regional delegation led by the councilors for research and universities Paula Salomoni and the balance sheet and assets Paolo Calvano, by the president of Cineca and Ifab Francesco Ubertini and the Data Center Director of the European Weather Center Matthew Dell’Acqua.
“The relationship of the Emilia-Romagna Region with San Marino is characterized by close territorial cooperation and solid relationships of mutual enhancement – comment the councilors Solomons And Calvano.- Today we evaluated with the Secretary of State what growth opportunities and what benefits can come from the cutting-edge tools available to the Technopole and, more generally, the Data Valley of Emilia-Romagna. We are convinced that the process towards greater integration of San Marino with the European Union can only benefit from the possibilities for economic development that the Digital Agenda will be able to guarantee”.
“I am firmly convinced that an international repositioning of the Republic of San Marino, in a scenario that is changing, also passes from knowing how to collaborate with the territorial area in which our country is inserted – says the secretary of state Staves.- This first exploratory mission to view the Technopole is therefore an opportunity to understand together with the Emilia-Romagna Region how to imagine San Marino’s participation and strategic interaction in the sector of new technologies connected to it.”

The investments and the complex work that led to the creation of the Technopole infrastructures were illustrated to the Secretary of State, and in particular two world-class excellences: the supercomputer Leonardo and the Data Center of the European Weather Center.
The Technopole – the heart of the Emilia-Romagna Data Valley together with the regional Technopole, High Technology, High Education Networks – is a real citadel of science, thanks to the investments of the Region for the urban recovery and the infrastructure of the former Tobacco manufacturing.
Host Leonardohandled by Cinema, recently ranked as the fourth most powerful supercomputer in the world: it guarantees 80% of the Italian computing power and over 20% of the European one. At a cost of 240 million euros (half paid by the European Union and half invested by the Italian Government), it has an unprecedented capacity in our country, at the service of research institutes and Italian universities and European Union researchers: it will be intended for research projects, scientific and academic and industrial use.
It is already active in the Technopole the Data Center of the European Weather Center (European Center Medium Weather Forecast) for medium-term forecasts and the Italian Meteo Agency, the international Foundation Big Data and artificial intelligence for human development (iFab) commissioned by the Region, laboratories, research centers such as Infn and Cnr, as well as the new institute of United Nations University dedicated to Big Data and Artificial Intelligence for the Management of Human Habitat Change – IBAHC.
