In Venice, the Goldoni Theater gets a makeover after 400 years – Veneto

Current season will be hosted at Malibran

(ANSA) – VENICE, 18 JAN – On the occasion of its first 400 years of life, the Goldoni Theater in Venice is getting a makeover. Starting from February 1st, the Municipality will start a complex of restyling works of the oldest prose theater in the world, which will be efficient and made safe. In the meantime, in collaboration with the La Fenice Foundation, the shows of the current season will be hosted at the Malibran Theater.

The interventions will concern in particular the replacement of the seats in the stalls and the adjustment of the electrical system. The extraordinary maintenance plan will impose closure until September, to allow for a series of structural works which will lead to obtaining the Fire Prevention Certificate (Cpi).

Interventions will also be made in the safety, extinguishing and fire detection systems, and under the stalls, where there is a tangle of asbestos pipes, already protected, but which will be replaced on occasion. The seating arrangements will be redesigned, with the introduction of four stations dedicated to people with motor disabilities, which will be arranged in such a way as to be easily accessible.

The room will also be equipped with a new audio system, to integrate the existing one, which will be camouflaged with the existing structures, according to international standards.

A first tranche of works, worth 1.2 million euros, had already been completed in 2020. “Now another 1.75 will be invested to give back a safer place to the community and spectators”, specified the commissioner at the Public Works of Venice, Francesca Zaccariotto. “The collaboration with the Fenice – explained the president of the Teatro Stabile del Veneto, Giampiero Beltotto – allows us not to cause inconvenience to our subscribers, except for the fact of the different location. The works will serve to provide a better, more comfortable place and solid for theater-goers”.
