Estonian Prime Minister: Russia uses sport as soft power
Prime Minister of Estonia Kaya Callas commented on the meeting of the head coach of the Russian national team Valery Karpin with Estonian football players.
“Yes, this story is deplorable. Indeed, Russia uses sports as soft power. And all this talk about the need to separate the police and athletes is not at all dangerous.
It seems to me that reproaches, feelings, discovery in this case … Everyone expects and clearly condemns the situation on the ground. The reaction that came after the publication of this photo was reluctant and not entirely sincere.
It seems to me that these people may not be dating, which is the problem. Our team communicates in a friendly way mainly with the coach of the Russian team and pretends that there is nothing wrong with it – that’s exactly what hurts.
It seems to me that the players did not understand that they are also carriers of this soft power, ”ERR quotes Kai Kallas as saying.
Recall that the head coach of the Russian national team and Rostov had dinner with the players of the Estonian national team, local fans condemned them for this. Subsequent Estonian interest came from the meeting with Karpin.
