Bilbao puts the special operation due to snowfall in a situation of “immediate intervention”
It has distributed troops, especially in the upper neighborhoods, given the forecast that snow will arrive in the city tomorrow
The Bilbao City Council has been put on alert in case snow reaches the city today. Euskadi is on orange alert and snowfall is expected at levels of 300 or 400 meters, but it could be even lower all day. In this way, the capital has activated the special snowfall operation, as reported by the government team.
Specifically, the City Council has prepared and in a situation of immediate intervention an operational compound made up of workers from the Cleaning Service and vehicles distributed throughout all the districts of the town that will carry out preventive work to avoid the formation of ice and, if necessary, will proceed to the removal of snow that could accumulate on public roads.
The material means of intervention available to the City Council in view of the snow forecast include trucks with blades and salt spreaders, pick-ups with blades and salt spreaders, sweepers with snow plows and inverted brushes, brine spreader tank trucks and a truck crane for the supply of salt. In addition, there is a stockpile of 200 tons of salt.
As a preventive measure and before the appearance of ice, cleaning teams will proceed, if the situation requires it, to spread salt and brine in the most vulnerable areas of the Villa: Artxanda, Enekuri, Alto de Miraflores, upper part of the street Zabalbide at the height of Arabella, Zurbaranbarri and the surroundings of Vía Vieja de Lezama, the upper part of Otxarkoaga and different areas of the upper neighborhoods of the Villa, with special attention to the access road to the Hospital of Santa Marina.
