What we know about the possible exceptional visit of the Pope to Marseille
The Archbishop of Marseille, Monsignor Aveline was created cardinal on August 27, 2022. At the time he announced that he had invited Pope Francis to visit the Marseille city. The talks appeared to have paid off, as the Vatican was considering a papal trip in the fall of 2023.
According to our newspaper colleagues The cross, Pope Francis is considering a stay in the Paca region and more specifically in Marseille. This place follows the Cardinal creation of Monsignor Aveline and the invitation that had been made.
An invitation created last August
The pope was taking part in a meeting of bishops from the Mediterranean.
Apostle of interreligious dialogue, Jean-Marc Aveline had enough to catch the eye of Pope Francis, the Argentinian Jesuit being known for his reduced positions. The invitation had also been created to the Holy Father by the Archbishop with a view to a stay in Marseilles.
“It would be very good, so that he could deliver a message to Marseille for France, but also for the Mediterranean.”
An invitation which would have been reiterated this January 12, during a new interview between the Cardinal and the Pope, when the sovereign pontiff had already deleted the question ofand no exclusive interview with our Spanish colleagues from ABC, the day after his 86th birthday.
The details of this visit are not known, nor the exact dates, even if October 1 seems to have been chosen.
According to Nice morning, “This visit by Pope Francis to Marseille would be historic since the last time a pope visited Marseille was 490 years ago.“.
