The area around the Ládví, Florenc, Kobylisy and Palmovka metro stations is reminiscent of the Bronx at night. The City Hall of Prague 8 did not help

The security situation in some parts of Prague 8 is not good. Near the subway station, especially at night, there are a large number of drug addicts, drunkards, homeless people, and pickpockets also run rampant here. Citizens repeatedly complain about the noise and mess left behind by non-adaptable citizens.
The area around the Ládví, Florenc, Kobylisy and Palmovka metro stations is the most affected. Already in the afternoon, the benches here are occupied by strange characters drinking boxed wines. Garbage thrown out of garbage cans and hundreds of cigarette butts are lying on the ground. Police patrols repeatedly come to the supermarket in Florence every day to take over the caught thieves.
City Hall no increase in powers
It would help to improve the security situation in these locations if the management of the town hall could better cooperate with the management of the city police. However, for this, it would need higher powers, as the city police falls under the Municipality of the Capital City of Prague. In an interview with PrahaIN.cz, Prague 8 press spokesman Martin Šalek said: “If the municipality handed over some of the powers related to the city police to the city hall, the security situation would undoubtedly improve. The management of the town hall could start cooperating directly with the city police and the results would certainly come. But without these powers, our hands are tied. Our efforts to negotiate end with the fact that we learn that the city police do not have enough people,” said Martin Šalek. “We understand that getting enough people is a problem. However, we understand the work of the city police in such a way that the officers are primarily to be seen in the streets. The uniform alone inspires respect in some people,” he added.
The emergency room and letters did not help
The authorities concern the city police, which have concerned the Prague 8 town hall for a long time. According to Šalka, negotiations with the municipality have so far been unsuccessful. “The discussion on this topic has been going on for a long time without any results. Mayors write letters to the mayor, articles are published in newspapers, but so far we have not noticed any positive progress from the municipality. Apparently, the leadership of Prague had other priorities in the past period,” points out Šalek.
There is no one to deal with at the municipality
At the same time, it is not only about the activity of the leadership of Prague 8. The mayors of other Prague town halls are also taking advantage of the increased authority in this area. So far, however, to no avail. “In the current situation, there is no one to negotiate with at the municipality. We are waiting for a new management to take over the head of the municipality and we assume that there will be a shift and finally our negotiations will be successful. We will definitely not let up. Of course, it is not only about solving the security situation. There are a number of important topics to be discussed in various areas. Some projects can only be supported in coordination with the municipality,” the spokesperson concluded.
