EHC Kloten gets two more attackers
Balls. (PM EHC) After Dominik Diem, EHC Kloten has signed two more strikers for the next season.
Deniss Smirnovs (23) joins the team from Geneva-Servette with a contract until 2025/26.
Joel Marchon (19), Marc Marchon’s brother, is returning to Switzerland from the Canadian junior league QMJHL. He signed in Kloten for two years.
“With Smirnovs comes a technician, with Joel Marchon a breaker, sports director Larry Mitchell the different qualities of the two newcomers. Center Smirnovs was born in Latvia, but he left Riga for Geneva at the age of 14 (2014). There he signed a contract for eight years, he plays with a Swiss license. He captained the Elite Novices (U17) and U20 of Geneva to championship titles. He has 46 points (15 goals/31 assists) in 180 National League games over the past four years. In 2022, Smirnovs (1.77 m/80 kg) performed with Latvia at the Olympic Games in Beijing and at the World Championships in Finland.
Joel Marchon (1.80 m, 83 kg) went through the junior stages at EV train. Last season, as a wing of the Academy team, he also once boxed with his brother Marc. Last spring, the attacker scored 16 goals (and 3 assists) in 12 playoff games on his way to the Zug U20 championship title! This winter he moved to North America, with Sherbrooke Phoenix he played 27 games (3 goals/2 assists) in the QMJHL (Quebec Major Junior Hockey League) and was recently traded to the Charlottetown Islanders. “He’s physically robust,” says Larry Mitchell, looking forward to the attacker, who has featured regularly in the Swiss squads since the Under-16s.
