Truck tire crashed into a gas station in Salzburg with great force
On the west autobahn (A1) in Salzburg, a tire came off a passing truck shortly before noon on Monday near the Kasern rest stop. The tire then crashed into a gas station shop with great force and touched a customer who was just about to pay his bill. The man was taken to the accident hospital. He is likely to have gotten away with the first information with minor incidents. The employees in the shop were not injured.
The police are now prosecuting the truck driver. A police spokeswoman told APA that the driver didn’t notice the tire was lost. Video recordings that could lead to the license plate number of the truck are now being evaluated. The extent of the damage is not yet clear, several panes of the glass front of the gas station shop broke. After the accident, the Salzburg professional fire brigade took care of removing the broken pieces and secured the building so that no parts of the damaged ceiling fell down.
According to the fire department, the detached tire weighed up to 100 kilograms. It is very likely that it was a spare wheel.
