Vivaldi’s sacred music in the majestic setting of the Royal Chapel, two Mozart masterpieces at the Seine Musicale, and a Wagner evening in Lille and Calais: here is Radio Classique’s selection of concerts not to be missed this week.
Sacred music by Vivaldi at the Royal Chapel of Versailles on January 14
It is in the sumptuous setting of the Royal Chapel of the Palace of Versailles that some of Vivaldi’s most beautiful sacred pieces will resonate. At the head of his Cappella Mediterranea and of the Chamber Choir of Namur, Leonardo Garcia Alarcon thus imagined a service of Vespers for the church of San Marco in Venice from four motets of Vivaldiwhich combine virtuosity, brilliance, magnificence and interiority: the Says Dominusthe Confitebor titbi Dominethe Beatus Vir and the Magnificat. This concert will be broadcast on Classic Radio Sunday, March 12 at 9 p.m.

Mozart at the Seine Musicale with Laurence Equilbey on January 19 and 20
Mozart will be honored at the next concerts of the Insula Orchestra at the Seine Musicale. With first of all one of Mozart’s masterpieces, and pillar of the repertoire of Laurence Equilbey’s ensemble: the Symphonie concertante for violin and viola. She will be played by Alexandra Conunova and Adrien La Marca. In the second part, Mozart’s penultimate symphony, the Symphony No. 39 in which the influence of Don Giovanni composed a year earlier.

“Passion Wagner” in Lille and Calais on January 19 and 20
A concert given at wagner ! This is what the National Orchestra of Lille offers under the direction of Harmut Haenchen. On the program the famous Ride of the Valkyriesas well as two other excerpts from The Valkyrie : The incantation of fire and Wotan’s Farewell sung by Australian bass-baritone Derek Welton In the second part: the Symphony No. 3 by Bruckner, which is subtitled “Wagner”. Bruckner was an admirer of Wagner. He dedicated this Symphony No. 3 in which he introduced quotations from The Valkyrie, Tristan and Isolda, Lohengrin and Tannhauser.
