San Marino exhibition: “Michelangelo architect” until 14 May.
San Marino, home of the architect Giovan Battista Belluzzi (1506-1554) known as the «Sanmarino», one of the protagonists of the Italian military Renaissance, presents the Michelangelo Architetto exhibition. The drawings of Casa Buonarroti, which from 22 December 2022 to 14 May 2023, allows you to retrace the creative process of Michelangelo Bonarroti (1475-1564) in one of the fields that most distinguished his artistic activity: architecture.
The exhibition, deliberately by the Secretariat of State for Education and Culture of San Marino, produced and organized by the MetaMorfosi Association in collaboration with the Casa Buonarroti Foundation and SMART and the support of Cassa di Risparmio of the Republic of San Marino, is curated by the director of the Casa Foundation Buonarroti Alessandro Cecchi and is open to the public at Palazzo SUMS from 22 December to 14 May 2023.
THE WORKS
Thanks to the most important collection in the world dedicated precisely to this theme, the corpus of 130 autograph sheets conserved by Casa Buonarroti in Florence, one can admire a selection of drawings of great architectural works signed by Michelangelo himself, thus retracing the different moments in which the Tuscan artist dealt with architecture: from the competition for the arrangement of the drum of the dome of Santa Maria del Fiore to the facade of San Lorenzo in Florence, from the New Sacristy of the same church to the Laurentian Library, from the fortifications for the defense of republican Florence to the church , to the remaining project stage, of San Giovanni dei Fiorentini in Rome, to reach the factory of San Pietro, the Sforza Chapel in Santa Maria Maggiore and the Porta Pia, all in the future capital of Italy.
