Toulouse. The new urban radars in service in the spring
Twenty urban radars installed in the streets of Toulouse will enter service by the end of the first quarter of 2023.
The testing period will soon come to an end. Twenty urban radars have been installed in the streets of Toulouse since the end of 2021. These flash motorists in violation of the highway code, but no fine is sent.
But this situation will soon come to an end. Indeed, the Interministerial Delegate for Road Safety was announced on Friday January 6 that the new urban radars will enter in service “by the end of the first quarter” of 2023.
Urban radars in Toulouse and three other cities
For now, in addition to Toulouse, three other cities are concerned by the presence of these new urban radars. These are Marseille, Montpellier and Montbéliard. They are installed in places where the maximum authorized speed is set at 50 km/h.
In the streets of Toulouse, careless motorists can be caught on the avenue des Etats-Unis, in the north of the city, on the road from Saint-Simon to Basso Cambo, or even on the boulevard Pierre et Marie-Curie in the Minimal. Devices are also installed along the Canal du Midi, at different levels.
Artificial intelligence in the face of offenses
“Urban speed cameras are used for traffic speed control, but they can also control the crossing of red light. They also have the functionality of identifying the lane of the offending vehicle. When conditions permit, they can control the speed in both directions of traffic,” according to radars-auto.com.
As well, these new urban radars are accompanied by artificial intelligence capable of detecting several additional violations. Soon, they could note the bad parking lots, the unworn seat belts, or even the telephones while driving.
