Cirque du Soleil, Prague Spring, Dvořák’s Prague and Our Furious
New theater performances, exhibitions, important festivals. A number of famous bands and musicians are also coming next year.
What awaits us in 2023? The outlook for the year 2023 was prepared by Zuzana Filípková:
He will play here in March, for example John Cale in the Archa Theatre. In July Buddy Gay in the Congress Center in Prague and March Eros Ramazotti in the O2 Universum space. He will also perform there in May Cirque du Soleil with an energetic performance full of acrobatics called OVO. Artists looked for inspiration in the life of insects, which are full of energy and movement. In the entertaining show, you will see, for example, massive crickets on trampolines, a spider in a web and various air-colored larvae and beetles flying with incredible acrobatic numbers.

Our largest representative of the new circus and acrobatics troupe Circus La Putyka published the program for half a year in advance. Fans can buy tickets now well in advance; it is about the ensemble’s adaptation to changes in society, which will help them survive, for example, the energy crisis. The principal of the theater revealed more Rostislav Novak younger:
“Block playing, changing admission prices and deploying the entire half-yearly schedule for spectators. It will also bring more clarity to people, and I will see that, for example, our performance La Putyka will be performed first in only one weekly block in the first half of 2023. Then the other performance space will not be visible. I hope that the viewers who are keeping us afloat now will keep us going for the next six months. What we have done is a step towards viewers, and not only regular viewers, but we are also opening our space to those who could not find their way to us before. We are opening up to viewers who need to plan things, as well as international audiences.” La Putyka Circus also wants as many foreign producers as possible to come next year. “In the spring, we will present three reprises of a unique performance by the Australian company at the Slaughterhouse Circa Humans 2.0. We will also be partially moving to the Exhibition Center, where we will present the Asylum 78 project for the third time,” adds Novák.
Dejvic Theater is preparing two new releases next year. He will direct one of them David Ondříček. Furthermore, it is his author’s text with the working title Chimney and birch trees. Rehearsal will begin in February. “It should be a musical production, but not a classical musical. He invited musician Marek Doubravka and scenographer Marek Cpin to collaborate. The premiere is scheduled for April,” says the DD dramaturg Eva Sukova. Director Jiří Havelka will also return to the popular Prague stage, and he is planning a premiere at the end of 2023. The title is still a secret.

I’ll stop by National Theater playswhere the premiere is going to be held in the Estates Theater in February Euripides’ Bacchantes directed by Jan Frič. They will have their premiere in the historic building in March Our furies directed by Martin Františák. Lukáš Trpišovský and Martin Kukučka are preparing their first production as directors of the ND SKUTŘI drama for May. It will be about Dangerous acquaintances.
“Of course, we really wanted to build on the success of our Bouquet for the National Theatre. We understand that it probably cannot happen anymore, but we will do everything to make it happen. What may be interesting for the audience is that we will not be based on the usual play Dangerous Liaisons, but directly from the novel, which is written in letter form. We are interested in the fact that someone presents the letters, that someone reads and writes them, and whether everything in the letter is true. A person tries to beautify or even harden that reality in some way when he writes about some things in retrospect. These are topics we are extremely interested in. I think that a lot of things will only arise during the rehearsals. A dramatization will not be written now, which we will rehearse later, but we have cast actors with whom we want to find the final shape. We can reveal that Madame de Merteuil will be played by Zuzana Stivínová, Vicomte de Valmont by Saša Rašilov,” explains Martin Kukučka.

May also traditionally belongs to the international music festival Prague spring. This year will be the first time under the leadership of a new director. He replaced Roman Bělor Pavel Trojan younger The opening concert in the Smetana Hall of the Municipal House in Prague will this time be under the baton of a conductor Tomas Hanus. “Tomáš Hanus has been the boss since 2016 Welsh National Opera in Cardiff. He will come to Prague with his orchestra to play My Homeland. Foreign ensembles tend to have a lot of respect for this song, which is why they include Mou vlast on their program before it. My homeland will also be heard in Wales this time,” added the director of Prague Spring, Pavel Trojan Jr.
He will also perform at the festival Essen Philharmonic Orchestrawhich is led by another Czech conductor Tomas Netopil. The concert will also be performed by Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra with the conductor Daniel Harding.
Interesting things from their program were also revealed by Collegium 1704which will perform, for example, in February in Dresden with a concert Apotheosis of dance, where they will perform Haydn’s and Beethoven’s symphonies. In the same month, a new season of chamber concerts will also begin in Vršovice’s cultural Vzlet. In March, Collegium 1704 will play in Prague’s Rudolfinum Pianto Napoletano or the cry of Naples. The chief conductor of this ensemble revealed more Vaclav Luks.
“In general, it can be said about southern Italian music that even with sad and tragic themes, it changes in a different way than we imagine. It is different from, for example, works of the 19th century. Such a heavy and gloomy sadness appears there very rarely. We can recall Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater – a work that offers many beautiful, touching and sweet melodies. In the south of Italy, there is also a sad message filled with some hope. Right at the beginning, the text of the Ordinaria Requiem forms the prayer Eternal light, let them shine. This is what Neapolitan composers in particular managed to transform very beautifully into a characteristic musical language.”

The central theme of the International Music Festival Dvořák’s Prague will be the 190th anniversary of the birth of Johannes Brahms. The director of the festival said more about the next year Jan Simon:
“I can reveal that a well-known pianist who has already performed in Dvořák’s Prague will celebrate his 70th birthday with us. The following year will be in the spirit of great comebacks. There will also be a unique combination of a famous foreign orchestra, which will play here for the first time with a Czech conductor. I’m speaking like this in secret because I can’t reveal the details yet.’
Finally, we’ll look at what’s new in 2023 National Gallery Prague. It will mainly focus on the presentation of Czech art. The spokesperson of the National Gallery Prague continues Eva Sochorová:
“We are preparing two large-scale exhibitions, and both are for the Valdštejnská jízdárna. An exhibition of works will open in March Josef Mánes and in October an exhibition that represents bohemian life Peter Brandl. In May, we are preparing a new collection exhibition in the Trade Fair Palace. We will also present Czech art abroad, at the Biennale show.”
Center for Contemporary Art DOX since January, it is preparing not only exhibition projects, but also theater and dance performances or literary programs, workshops and education for the whole family.
“Probably the biggest highlight of our exhibition program will be the exhibition Kafka. It will present the work of more than two dozen artists who were inspired by the work of Franz Kafka. A number of works will be exhibited here in their premiere. The exhibition will begin in November 2023,” concludes the program director of the Center for Contemporary Art DOX Michaela Šilpochová.
