Animal inspection in the slaughterhouse secured – salzburg.ORF.at

With the help of an additional payment from the state of Salzburg, the inspection of animals for slaughter at the Alpine beef slaughterhouse in Bergheim (Flachgau) has been secured. Finding doctors for this is becoming increasingly difficult, according to the State Veterinary Directorate.
In recent times, one has been looking in vain for doctors to inspect the animals for slaughter and meat in the country’s largest cattle slaughterhouse in Bergheim, says state veterinarian director Josef Schöchl: “We hope that we will find more support in this way, find enough veterinarians who can and perform meat inspection. We are in competition with other countries. However, doctors are already coming to us from Upper Austria and carrying out the inspection. We’re glad we can do that.”
Payment amount unknown
The Chamber of Veterinarians and the Veterinary Directorate do not want to say how high the additional payment is, so as not to raise any envy debate, it is said. The new regulation of the examination in the slaughterhouse is part of the new state package for emergency veterinary care. Here, the state of Salzburg states the total costs at around one million euros per year.
