CHRISTMAS AT TROJCA: Ice rink under the tower, markets on Jiřák and the illuminated Trojka logo | Prague 3 | From the region of | Prague Gossip
During Advent, we present to the readers of Pražská Drbna what Christmas looks like in individual parts of Prague this year. Prague 3 is preparing an entertainment program full of Christmas traditions for its residents and visitors. During Advent, people can soak up the Christmas atmosphere thanks to the ice rink under the Žižkov Tower or the markets on Náměstí Jiřího z Poděbrady, where the main Christmas tree of Prague 3 stands.
Žižkov is decorated with four and a giant glowing logo
There are four Christmas trees lit up in the territory of Prague 3. It has become a symbol of Christmas, like the traditionally growing spruce, which is on Havlíčk Square in front of the town hall and is decorated with luminous decorations in the shape of the iconic Troika logo.
Another Christmas tree is in the Ohrada park, where there is a thirteen-meter Caucasian fir, the third is a silver fir eight meters high on Jiřího z Lobkovice square, and the main Christmas tree of Prague 3 stands on Jiřího z Poděbrady square, thus the eleven-meter Caucasian fir. It shone on the first Advent Sunday, November 27. The leafy trees on Žižková náměstí, Prokopov náměstí and at the intersection of Želivského and Olšanská streets are also lit up.
An interesting feature of this year’s Christmas at Trojka is the illuminated decoration in the shape of the Prague 3 logo. People can find the over two-meter-high decoration on Olšanské náměstí or Ohrad, for example.
According to Prague 3 workers, the lighting is more modest this year. “We use energy-saving lighting with LED bulbs,” reported for our editors by Miroslav Štochl from Prague 3.
Traders on Jiřák sell every day from ten to eight
On the same day that the tree lit up on Jiřího z Poděbrady square, the Advent markets started at the same place. Vendors have stands with Christmas assortment open every day from ten in the morning to eight in the evening.
The Prague 3 Info Center on the corner of Jiřího z Poděbrady Square has exhibited the Žižkovský nativity scene, which will be on display until the end of January during opening hours, i.e. on weekdays from eight in the morning to six in the evening and on Saturdays from eight in the morning to two in the afternoon.
Rybova Czech Christmas mass and other culture not only on Jiřák
Prague 3 does not forget about culture either. On Thursday, December 15, at six o’clock in the evening, the students of the music school on Komenské náměstí will give a concert in the info center. On Saturday, from three in the afternoon, Jiřího z Poděbrady square will be enlivened by the performance of the Latvian choirs Sēja and Skulte. They sing in Latvian, English and Czech. On Sunday, at the same time, a concert by the Collegium of Prague Trumpeters and the Women’s Chamber Choir of the Pedagogical Faculty of Charles University will take place at Jiřák. The program includes traditional songs and a medley of Christmas carols.
Zlata Adamovská and Petr Štěpánek will perform at the Vozovna cultural center on December 21 at five in the afternoon as part of the Chair for a Guest event.
The Advent event will close with Ryb’s Czech Christmas Mass performed by the Consortium Pragense Orchestra, which those interested will hear on December 22 at five o’clock in the Bethlehem Chapel.
