The Orange relay team has been disqualified at the World Short Course Swimming Championships in Melbourne. The 4×50 meter mixed relay included the Netherlands in third, but the team’s time was scrapped shortly after the finish. The world title became a prey for the US, which also stole the world record from the Netherlands.
The Netherlands was the defending champion on this number, but because of the absence of Arno Kamminga, prolongation already became a difficult story. After Kira Toussaint, Caspar Corbeau and Maaike de Waard had swum, the Dutch were in seventh place, but Thom de Boer steamed up to the bronze. However, he had gone off the starting block a little too quickly, resulting in the Netherlands being disqualified.
With Ryan Murphy, Nic Fink, Kate Douglass and Torri Huske, the US swam to 1.35.15, more than a second faster than the old world record of the Netherlands (1.36.18). Italy assumes silver in a new European record, which means that the Netherlands has also disappeared (1:36.01).
As number four Germany was also disqualified, Canada jumped from fifth to bronze.
