World Cup in Qatar: report in Toulouse, at the headquarters of English fans
In Toulouse, English fans found themselves in the many pubs of the city. At the Seven Sisters, we are preparing to welcome the fans for a real derby between French and English.
At the Seven Sisters near Matabiau station, Tottenham scarves are proudly displayed on the walls and the BBC is broadcast on all screens. This traditional pub is one of the many English bars which will broadcast the France-England match tonight. “We have become a bit like the headquarters of English fans for the World Cup”, explains Paul, one of the managers. “We expect a good atmosphere tonight, with people on both sides. Indeed, even the bosses of the Seven Sisters are divided, Paul is English while his colleague Yvan is French. “We try to stay as neutral as possible”, laughs Paul, “I’m sure the loser will accept defeat with good grace”.

Sitting on one of the benches, Carly has her eyes fixed on the penalty shootout between Brazil and Croatia. Tomorrow night will be the selection of this Chelsea fan who will play for his place in the semi-finals. “I have confidence in our selection,” she says. “My prediction: 2-1 for England. The women’s team became European champions this summer. If the men could also win, it could boost the morale of the nation. We had three or four quite difficult months. Despite these daring assertions, she has not yet succeeded in convincing her French friends. “It’s been a struggle”, she smiles, “I think England have played better in the last games but the French seem quite confident”.
