Trouble in Prague: The municipality opened a passage for cyclists, but the city district immediately closed it
The reason for this is the fact that works on the revitalization of the Cihelná park are underway in the area of the bike path, which are in operation in the Prague 1 district.
It was a great celebration in the center of Prague on Tuesday, when Deputy Mayor for Transport Adam Scheinherr and his companions cut the Klár ribbon at the new bicycle underpass under the Mánes bridge.
“Under the Mánes bridge, we are opening an important path for pedestrians and cyclists, which connects the interrupted Povolta promenade. Families with children, seniors or cyclists previously had to cross a complicated intersection in Klárov, now they can get from Kosárkov nábřeží to Cihelná Park quickly, safely and comfortably via an underpass along the Vltava.” Scheinher said.
But seniors and cyclists could enjoy the new underpass for barely a day. Jak pointed out iDnes.cz server, the very next morning cyclists found fence barriers in front of it. The reason for this is the fact that works on the revitalization of the Cihelná park are underway in the area of the cycle path, which are under the direction of the Prague 1 district. According to it, the construction cannot be driven through for safety reasons, which is required by Scheinherr. “The construction contractor has full responsibility in this regard and must comply with laws and regulations. So it was certainly possible to wait a little longer before cutting the ribbons.” Petr Bidlo from the Prague 1 district town hall told iDnes.
The reconstruction of the park is expected to take about another month.
The construction of a new section of the A1 cycle path brings a fundamental improvement to cyclists riding along the left bank of the Vltava. The underpass was created in a previously unused overgrown area that served as a hostel for homeless people.
