Jablunkov: The jewelry exhibition here will last until the end of the year
“Even if the crown jewels are perfect imitations, the interest in seeing them is no less than in Prague. Most people don’t have the chance to go there and stand in line for half a day. For them, this is a unique opportunity to see a piece of our history,” said museum director Petr Hamrozi.
The story of the coronation set began to be written during the reign of Charles IV, when other items were added to the St. Wenceslas crown, which today form the basis of the St. Vitus treasure.
The crown itself, with which 22 monarchs were crowned, weighs three kilograms. Its original has an incalculable value. For example, the stone in the middle called rubellite, which Charles IV bought. from the Maharajah of India.
Replica for millions
“The one that costs a billion costs 800 crowns. Even the price of replica jewels is counted in millions,” said Hamrozi, noting that the royal apple is decorated with scenes from the Old Testament.
The exhibition also includes the coronation sword, the Order of the Golden Fleece and a copy of Longinus, the ceremonial dress of Maria Theresa, the coronation cloak of Ferdinand II. or a replica of the Infant Jesus of Prague. “The original dress of the Baby Jesus was said to have been embroidered by Mare Theresia herself,” added the director.
According to him, it is amazing how important Charles IV was. for our country and for Jablunkovskoe, which during his rule was a border region of the Holy Roman Empire. The exhibition will last until the end of the year.
The Invisible Book on the Moon
The Museum of the Bible also boasts of its rare pieces while exhibiting the crown jewels. The second oldest holy book in the world, which anyone can touch in gloves or a Bible, made with secret American technology for the military. “We’ve had it soaked in water for seven years and it’s still the same,” Hamrozi said.
“There is a Bible in Armenian that was given to us by a drug lord who believed in God and changed,” the director pointed. Even the piece of plastic that contains the entire book is rare. It is read under a microscope and was part of the Apollo moon flight or the one transcribed by a prisoner on cigarette papers.
The Queen’s Goldsmith
The author of the excellent replicas of the coronation jewels is one of the best Czech and European goldsmiths, a legend among jewelers – Jiří Urban, who created jewelry for example for Queen Elizabeth II of England, a cross for Pope John Paul II, a replica of the imperial crown of the Holy Roman Empire and recently also replicas Cás or Lombard crowns. An exact replica of the coronation sword was made by armorer Patrick Bárta.
