A 77-year-old woman from Salzburg died in a traffic accident on a wintry road in the evening in the municipality of Schwarzach (Pongau). She was a passenger in the car of a 58-year-old Upper Austrian. You were rammed by the vehicle of an 80-year-old Pinzgauer.
On the evening of December 9, an 80-year-old from Pinzgau drove his car on the B311 coming from St. Johann in the direction of Zell am See. At the height of the east portal of the Schönberg tunnel, in the municipality of Schwarzach im Pongau, the 80-year-old got into the oncoming lane in wintry road conditions.
At that time, a 58-year-old Upper Austrian was driving his car on the B311, coming from Zell am See in the direction of Salzburg and collided head-on with the 80-year-old’s vehicle.
As a result of the collision, the 58-year-old driver and his 77-year-old passenger were trapped in the vehicle. They had to be cut out of the vehicle by the fire department. The 58-year-old was admitted to the Schwarzach Clinic after his first aid. After unsuccessful resuscitation, the passenger could only be determined to be dead. The 80-year-old Pinzgauer was unharmed in the collision.
Schönberg Tunnel closed for three hours
Neither of the drivers were under the influence of alcohol, nor could any drugs be detected. The public prosecutor’s office is now investigating how the accident happened. Both vehicles involved in the accident have been secured. An expert will now investigate the course of the accident. Both vehicles were totaled.
The Schönberg Tunnel was closed in both directions for about three hours while the accident was being recorded.
