Zeilinger receives an honorary doctorate from the University of Innsbruck
In doing so, Rector Tilmann Märk emphasized that he carried out “groundbreaking experiments”, such as the first quantum teleportation with photons in 1997, which is now being honored with the Nobel Prize. Zeilinger thus laid one of the cornerstones for the rise of Innsbruck’s quantum physics to the top of the world. “Anton Zeilinger’s scientific successes were a decisive impetus for the expansion of quantum physics in Innsbruck and Vienna. This development has contributed to Austria’s current global reputation in this promising field,” explained Märk. It is a great honor and pleasure for the University of Innsbruck “that this year’s Nobel Prize in Physics is being awarded for findings that have been made in the Innsbruck Physics laboratories.”
