Sweden was interested in connecting with Bangladesh regarding the RMG sector of renewable energy
Sweden is interested in partnering with the Bangladeshi readymade garment sector within renewable energy to promote the sustainable fashion platform in Bangladesh, a press release states.
They expressed interest in the first policy dialogue on the ‘Sustainable Fashion Platform’ organized by the Embassy of Sweden in Bangladesh, together with the Swedish brands H&M, IKEA and Lindex, together with the Nordic Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Sweden-Bangladesh Business Council which was launched on Wednesday.
The purpose of the dialogue was to scale up the Sweden-Bangladesh cooperation in renewable energy within the RMG sector which was hosted by the Swedish ambassador to Bangladesh Alexandra Berg von Linde.
Adviser to Prime Minister on Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury was the chief guest at the event.
Sweden’s Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Johan Forssell made digital opening remarks at the event.
With the celebration of 50 years of bilateral relations between Sweden and Bangladesh as a backdrop, the Swedish minister said: ‘Sweden wants to continue our joint journey forward. Sustainability will be an important part of our future bilateral ties and we look forward to strengthening our partnership in the green transition.
Alexandra Berg von Linde said: “Sweden sees potential for cooperation on sustainability in the RMG sector.”
She also emphasized that Swedish environmental technology companies have a lot to offer in the broader area of ​​sustainability, both in terms of services and solutions.
Secretary of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, Md Habibur Rahman, Chairman of Sustainable and Renewable Energy Development Authority, Munira Sultana, and Chairman of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association, Faruque Hassan, attended the event as special guests.
European Union Ambassador Charles Whiteley, Bangladesh Ambassador to Sweden Mehdi Hasan, UNDP Representative Stefan Liller and NCCI President Tahrin Aman delivered statements at the event.
