Rema takes over over 100 Aldi stores in Denmark
Rema 1000 Denmark, which is part of Reitan Retail, is also buying three distribution warehouses, a portfolio of properties and development projects, Reitan Retail said in a press release on Friday.
The agreement provides access to attractive locations that are well suited to the Rema 1000 concept and contributes to further growth in an attractive market, the company writes.
In the country since 1994
– The agreement with Aldi is an important step in Reitan Retail’s strategy to strengthen our position, renew and develop the portfolio and contribute to sustainable and profitable growth, says CEO Ole Robert Reitan.
Rema opened its first stores in Denmark in 1994.
– This purchase will give us the opportunity to establish more Rema 1000 stores in attractive locations, with high-quality products at low prices, says Henrik Burkal, CEO of Rema 1000 Denmark.
– An inspiration
Rema 1000 founder and Reitan AS top Odd Reitan is happy that the concept is growing.
– Aldi’s business model was a great inspiration when we opened the first Rema store in Trondheim in 1979 and continues to shape our philosophy throughout Reitan today, he says.
Communications manager Øyvind Breivik at Reitan Retail informs NTB that the parties are the only ones to share the financial details of the agreement.
Probably the largest in Denmark
To E24 says Ole Robert Reitan at Rema – according to his calculations and if the former Aldi stores retain turnover – will be Denmark’s largest store chain.
The agreement does not cover Aldi’s head office and remaining stores in Denmark. The transaction is subject to approval from the Danish competition authorities.
