Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area Season 1 Episode 8 Recap
Episode 8 begins with a flashback; The professor wants to celebrate; the day of the robbery arrives. The heist team parties into the night, alcohol coursing through their veins. They are happy. These were simple times. Nairobi wants to get rid of it, but the Professor rejected him. He decides to get lost with Oslo and Helsinki instead. Helsinki is emotional and thinks about his mother. He has never found her. Nairobi cries and reveals that she has a son. The sobs turn to laughter.
Today, the power goes out at the mint. Oslo is lying on the floor, blood everywhere; he has been badly injured by the hostages. When the power goes out, Woojin believes that this is where the real negotiations begin.
The hostages prepare to escape, but Yun Misun is suspicious of their plan. Helsinki checks on the hostages, but he is soon attacked. Meanwhile, Rio, Berlin and Tokyo set in motion plans to turn on backup power. Oslo opens fire and warns the others of the ambush before he is suffocated unconscious.
The lights come back on when the backup power is turned on. The robbery team finds Helsing unconscious. The professor calls the group and tells them that he knows where the hostages are going.
The hostages head for the exit door of the loading dock. Denver gets in the way of the hostages, and the heist team arrives. The situation has been resolved and the heist team will not escape.
Meanwhile, Rio ends up in a violent altercation with one of the hostages, Park Chulwoo, who is a mole among the hostages. Chulwoo calls Woojin and tells him the whereabouts of the hostages. Chulwoo uses the gun to destroy all communication devices. Chulwoo leaves the room, leaving Rio shocked. The professor can no longer contact the heist team.
At the loading dock, the police break down the exit door with explosives; the robbery team ends up in a shootout with the authorities. Tokio uses a machine gun on them and forces them back. As they are forced back, the heist team plugs the hole in the wall. Chulwoo directs the hostages to the roof for an alternative escape plan, while a soft landing pad is placed outside for them to jump.
The heist team suddenly realizes the hostages are gone and head to the roof to stop their escape. Denver tells Yun Misun to run away, but his feelings for her are not going away. Cho Youngmin tries to escape first as the heist team gets closer, but ends up getting stuck in the rope and begs to be pulled back up. Some of the hostages jump from the roof and land on the pillow to escape.
Half of the hostages escape, but the heist team breaks through, and Berlin manages to capture Anne after the escape plan is completed. In the news, Woojin assures the audience that they will make sure the other hostages are released, claiming to know the bandits’ weaknesses. He sends a warning to the heist team and tells them to surrender.
Episode 8 shows no signs of slowing down as the heist team finds Oslo dead. Helsinki is heartbroken and demands his team to save him, but there is no answer. He is gone. The team organizes Olson’s funeral together in the vault. Helsinki tells how Olso wanted to find his mother and buy her a house. How annoying.
However, there is no rest for the bad guys, and Tokyo tells the hostages to get back to work. The hostages start clapping in unison, and Berlin grows impatient, but Denver tells him to let them clap. The hostages make a statement that they will no longer obey the heist team.
The heist team is unsure of what to do. They were not prepared for this scenario. However, Berlin gets annoyed; his incurable disease is starting to affect him. He demands the traitor reveal himself. He blames Oslo’s death on a traitor and then starts to have a seizure. Flashbacks reveal that Nairobi is a traitor; she is in danger – the authorities have taken her child. He is wracked with guilt, but knows he can’t reveal the truth to the heist team.
Meanwhile, Park Chulwoo gives Woojin important evidence – a cure for Huntington’s disease; he knows that one of the members of the heist team is dying. Meanwhile, Rio remembers Berlin telling him that he is dying. Tokyo decides they should isolate Berlin until he gets better.
Woojin wonders if there’s more to the robbery than just money; he questions why one of them needs money if they’re dying and suggests that the real agenda is to sabotage inter-Korean economic cooperation. And then he is shown more information; the head of the detention camp (Jeon Yongsu) where Berlin was tortured attends the summit representing North Korea. Woojin doesn’t think powering off the mint is enough; they need to find out the real agenda.
Berlin wakes up and accuses Tokyo of being a traitor. Rio tells Berlin to calm down and threatens to shoot him. Helsinki arrives, and Berlin says that he killed Oslo. Helsinki sides with Berlin and knocks Rio unconscious.

Meanwhile, Berlin ties Tokyo and Rio to the table and assembles a team. The front door of the mint opens – Berlin wants to give them to the police. And then Berlin concludes that Tokyo is a traitor and pushes him out – Tokyo is surrounded and arrested. But then Berlin comes out with Anne with a gun to her head. Anne asks for Jeong Yongsu, a former guard of the prison camp, and declares that he has committed insulting and inhuman acts. Berlin shows that he wants personal revenge and states that if Jeong Yongsu doesn’t come, he will kill Anne.
Meanwhile, the Professor considers blowing up the hideout. A flashback shows her and Berlin singing together. Berlin promises the Professor to follow his orders to the end.
