Documentary photos with Roma holding rifles
The guns came out, once again, in earnest episodes that took place in the settlement of “Agia Sophia” in Thessaloniki, with the gypsies throwing in the air and towards the police forces, as can be seen in the images-document published on protothema.gr.
It all started at 15.45 when a group of gypsies came out of the settlement and set up roadblocks by lighting fires in vehicle tires on Pontou Street. A few minutes later, they moved against the police forces of the MAT who were delayed by the Directorate of Migration of Thessaloniki, with the policemen responding by using tear gas, in order to repel them.
The Roma group headed to the road outside the settlement, setting up new barricades and lighting fires. The first shots from carbines began to be fired in the air shortly before 6 pm, with the Gypsies constantly threatening the police to take their weapons and challenge them to go to their place.
According to police sources, the MAT forces conveyed to the Operations Center that the individuals are acting with weapons, while they were ordered to take all the necessary self-protection measures. The shooting of the gypsies continued, while the shrapnel burst several times past the platoons, without any injury. The police asked the journalists to move away from the scene, as the situation was dangerous for their physical integrity, however, there were quite a few vehicles leaving nearby businesses and passing through the scene.
It is reminded that this was not the first time shots were fired through the settlement, since the same had happened in last Tuesday’s episodes.
It is noted that the situation defused two hours after the start of the incidents, with the intervention of the cooler gypsies who asked the rioters to put out the fires and enter the settlement, in order to remove the police forces as well.
