“Democratic Bulgaria” and “We continue the change” are still negotiating for a second mandate – Politics
“Democratic Bulgaria” has not yet given up trying to adopt a decision with a possible second term for its composition. This is what the co-chairman of the association Hristo Ivanov told BBC.
If the first political force of GERB does not realize its own, then the next mandate will be assigned by President Rumen Radev to “We continue the change”. From the party of Kiril Petkov and Asen Vasilev already presented a management plan, which presupposes a cabinet that works by policy definition. One of their priorities is to keep the machine vote and then change it in the Electoral Code, adopted with the votes of GERB, BSP and DPS, who returned the paper ballots, from “We continue the change” said that I had not proposed a cabinet.
Yesterday, in front of BTV, the deputy chairman of the parliamentary group of “Democratic Bulgaria” Vladislav Panev pointed out that the second term is doomedbut today Ivanov stated a different attitude.
“We are talking about existing formulas with “We continue the change”, if the cabinet is political or has a depoliticized and more neutral composition, the decision will be theirs. We are actively working on trying to make something happen with a second term,” Ivanov said.
Ivanov called on the chairmen of the remaining parliamentary groups to say before the upcoming parliamentary vote how many of the deputies from the group will be MPs. If someone is absent, make it clear why.
“One of the things that will be very important is that we don’t let the election happen in somebody’s absence because it wouldn’t be fair. there should be no doubts,” said Ivanov regarding the possible dynamics of the court that would lead to this cabinet being elected with less than 121 deputies.
“Democratic Bulgaria” is already holding a meeting with the candidate for Prime Minister of GERB – Prof. Nikolay Gabrovski, as support is indicated.
“Prof. Gabrovski and I probably have many common points, but the topic is not the persona of the candidate for prime minister, which in this particular case arouses sympathy. The Council of Ministers, which at the moment is not clear, but also about the construction of the majority that will issue this candidate, as in this case we are talking about a majority around GERB, which we have no way to support,” Ivanov pointed out.
According to him, in order to have a clear majority, which is sufficient even for constitutional changes (out of 160 deputies), GERB must finally make a clear commitment to reform and restart the leadership of the prosecutor’s office.
“The priority that Gabrovski announced is the entry into Schengen. The central theme in Schengen is the confidence that Bulgaria can deal with corruption with effective convictions. The same goes for the Recovery and Resilience Plan. The Bulgarian Prosecutor’s Office will not move forward. It begins with the replacement of Ivan Geshev. The fact that GERB is running away from this topic undermines the possibility of Gabrovski and any other person to move the country forward,” said Ivanov.
According to him, it is impossible for the politicians to convince the citizens that they have overcome the major cause of the political crisis and the mistrust both between the citizens and the political system, as well as between those who use the political field, because the reason for them is corruption.
“We don’t trust each other, because all the time someone accuses someone of being a mafia, of being corrupt. This is heard from all possible sides. this topic. The rule of law and the fight against corruption are a fundamental prerequisite for dealing with foreign influence in Bulgaria,” Ivanov added.
On the occasion of Bulgaria’s refusal to enter the Schengen area, he said that all politicians have not done the job, and now it should be clear who can take responsibility for it to be done.
