Cologne politician sticks to the lectern – the meeting goes on anyway
A member of the Cologne City Council glued himself to the lectern during his speech. The mayor, however, was undeterred.
Again and again, activists of the “last generation” stick themselves to streets or objects to demonstrate for more climate protection. This practice has now made it into politics: in the Cologne city council, the city councilor Nicolin Gabrysch glued herself to the lectern. Grabysch, who was on the city council for the Climate Friends voter group, attended a meeting for the last time.
They were “very desperate,” Grabysch explained in her speech: “It can’t and mustn’t go on like this, and I’ll make sure that things don’t go on as usual, at least here and now.” With these words and the “request for solidarity” she stuck to the desk. There was occasional applause and heckling from the plenum.
The Mayor of Cologne continues the session
However, the action of the climate protector did not quite achieve the desired effect – namely interrupting the course of the session. Mayor Henriette Reker was not disturbed by the incident. She pointed out that the debate at a second lectern will be natural. “We already expected that we would get into a similar situation today,” said Reker. The session will then continue as planned.
Nicolin Gabrysch was handed a solvent and was back in her usual place after a few minutes. The politician has been a member of Cologne City Council for two years and is now passing her mandate on to a colleague. The party wants to enable as many people as possible to get involved in the council. Gabrysch is chairman of the Climate List party. Your Cologne voter group Klimafreunde came to 2.0 percent in the 2020 election and thus achieved two seats in the city council. According to the website, the list consists of “committed people from the Cologne climate, social, mobility and democracy movements”.
