The bill of Tisseo, to operate public transport in the agglomeration of Toulousewill explode.
This sharp increase, linked to the increase in energy costs, was expected. The invoice had been attributed to 24 million euros in September 2022 against 6 million euros for the current contract which runs until the end of 2022.
Between 25 and 30 million euros in 2023
While the negotiation of future energy contracts is underway, the increase in this bill will be even higher than expected, by the very admission of Sasha Briand.
This Thursday, December 8, 2022, the vice-president of finance of Toulouse Métropole, indeed announced that the energy bill that Tisséo will have to pay in 2023 will amount to “between 25 and 30 million euros”.
An amount that will therefore probably be multiplied by five compared to the current cost. This will require a financial extension from Toulouse Métropole to the budget of the joint transport union.
Tisséo “bankrupt like all transport systems”
How high will this extension be? 15 million ? 30 million? Sacha Briand does not mention any figures for the time being. The amount will be provisioned in 2023.
At the time, Toulouse Métropole’s contribution to Tisséo amounts to nearly 104 million euros.
“Very concretely, it is the improvement in net savings that will allow us to cope with this very important effort for Toulouse Métropole, explained Sacha Briand. By virtue of the decisions that could be taken at European level, we will assume that we will be able to reduce the contribution that we (the community, editor’s note) will have to put in place in 2023 to save our transport system. All the systems in France are now bankrupt with expenses that have exploded and revenues that have not followed”.
Short-term purchases on the energy markets
In addition, Sacha Briand announced that Tisséo’s next energy purchases will be made “for a short period”, so that in the future, the joint transport union can benefit from any measures to limit energy costs at European.
This increase in Tisséo’s energy bill, which will lead to an increase in Toulouse Métropole’s contribution, will it have an impact on the price of transport tickets in the metro, tram and buses?
So far, Tisséo ensures that the only increases that will occur on the network are those that have been deployed in July 2026, for the period from 2022 to 2026.
