Toulouse and Montpellier at the top of the most attractive cities in France
According to the sixth Arthur Loyd barometer of the attractiveness and resilience of French cities and the transition of territories, published on December 5, the Occitanie region has emerged stronger from the Covid period and today appears as the 3rd French region for its growth in private employment since the 4th quarter of 2019.
After being the regional metropolis which suffered the most from the economic consequences of the Covid-19 crisis (10,792 jobs destroyed), Toulouse created 16,386 jobs in 2021. A rebound which contributes to its second place in the ranking of very large French metropolises . Montpellier also shines by rising to first place in the ranking of major cities. Demographic growth and excellent accessibility constituting the cornerstones of its success, reflected in a strong increase in its private employment: + 11,392 jobs created in 2021.
This trend is confirmed through investments in climate transition sectors: renewable energies, waste recycling, eco-materials, green hydrogen, batteries, electric vehicles, etc. Sign of its dynamism, we note that Occitania, with undeniable assets for the development of renewable energies, is positioned in second place among regions hosting investments in climate transition sectors. Companies have invested 1.4 billion euros in 2021 in projects related to the decarbonization of the economy, and already 1 billion in the first half of 2022.
