Thus, thanks to the donation of other transplants, a new corneal transplant was performed today at the “Papageorgiou” hospital in 60 patients, who were practically blind, while similar operations are planned for the following days as well.

“The transplant was done in a patient who was practically blind. Everything went great and we are following her progress. From the beginning of the year until November we had performed 25 transplants, while after the organ donation of the 21st there is a rapid increase in the supply of transplants, due to the mobilization of new donors. The rate of increase reaches 20% within a week”, says the director of the Second University Ophthalmology Clinic and the Corneal Transplantation Center of the “Nikolaos Ziakas” Hospital.
The mobilization that has increased the number of transplants also gives hope to other patients with severe vision problems, who are on a waiting list waiting for the coveted “gift”.
The team of the Transplantation Center of G.N. Papageorgiou will perform one more transplant on Saturday, December 10, while two more are scheduled for next Monday, December 12.
