Team leader Angeles Cortina collected audio-visual material in order to present the culinary identity of Thessaloniki and its connection with local production.
The Spanish journalist visited the livestock breeding unit of MEVGAL in order to present to the Spanish television audience how Greek feta cheese and Soho cheese are made.
The production team also recorded the process of making Thessaloniki Bougatsa and melomakari.
“The rich tradition of flavors of Thessaloniki and the title of recognition by UNESCO as the capital of Greek gastronomy attracted the interest of the Spanish channel”, notes the Thessaloniki Tourism Organization in a statement.
The show Aqui la Tierra is broadcast by the state channel “1” (TVE1) from Monday to Friday from 20:00 to 21:00 and on Sundays from 20:30 to 21:00. Almost all days of its broadcast it is the most watched program on channel ‘1’. It has a viewership share of between 10% and 11%, with more than 1,200,000 viewers per day.
The deputy regional governor of the Metropolitan Unity of Thessaloniki and the president of the Thessaloniki Tourism Organization Voula Patoulidou underlined that “the gastronomy of a region when it is based on local ingredients and traditional preparation methods can in itself be a sufficient reason for someone to become a country. By promoting local products we improve the brand of the destination. Thessaloniki has an identity and production. The farmer, the breeder, the fisherman is a main ally of tourism. The Thessaloniki Tourism Organization supports the line in this direction”.
