Salzburg: Clear test defeat against Inter
While it was the last appearance of the year for the Red Bulls, the Milanese are in the middle of preparing for the championship that begins on January 4, 2023. In addition, the series champion was missing a total of 16 players, which should become apparent as the game progresses. While only a few accents could be set at the front, there were a number of good chances for the 19-time Italian champion at the back. Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s leadership was the logical consequence. Shortly before the break, the Italian team player Francesco Acerbi – albeit from an offside position – increased the lead to make it 2-0.
The picture changes after the change of sides, Matthias Jaissle’s team came into play better and also created opportunities. A Wöber cross from the Inter defense in the 55th minute would have been deflected into their own goal. Shortly afterwards it was debutant Karim Konate, who failed after an elegant dribbling by Inter keeper Samir Handanovic. Inter were more successful, scoring 3-0 after a header from Edin Dzeko through Bernardo’s own goal. Valentin Carboni scored the final score in added time.
FC Red Bull Salzburg – Inter Milan 0: 4 (0: 2). Goals: Mkhitaryan (20′), Acerbi (42′), Bernardo (72′, own goal), Carboni (90’+1′)
Testify
Matthias Jaissle: “It was very difficult for us today. We started without 16 players. Even though the boys tried to give it their all in the last game of the year, you could tell that the tank was empty and it was an extremely intense season. We’re also facing Inter Milan, an absolute top team that’s preparing for mittens. You could feel the difference right from the start. But there is no reproach to my troops. Now they really deserve three and a half weeks vacation.”
Nicholas Seiwald: “We know that we didn’t have a lot of regular players with us today, but many young players were used instead. Inter Milan is a class team that is mittens in preparation. This defeat is a pity, but we can’t overestimate it given the general conditions. Now we have enough time; to become fresh; and then really get going again in January.”
Missing players, new talent
The following Red Bulls players were not in action today: Philipp Köhn, Noah Okafor, Strahinja Pavlovic, Luka Sucic (all World Cup starters), Junior Adamu, Nicolas Capaldo, Mamady Diambou, Youba Diarra, Fernando, Lucas Gourna-Douath, Justin Omoregie , Oumar Solet, Samson Tijani, Andreas Ulmer (all injured) as well as Benjamin Sesko (ill) and Antoine Bernede.
For this we got Raphael Hofer, Zeteny Jano, Karim Konat, Tolgahan Sahin and Luke Wallner several youngsters of FC Liefering the opportunity to prove themselves at this training camp.
Today’s test match was the Diploma of the football year 2022. The team will fly back to Salzburg tomorrow and then go to the winter vacation. training start is then back on January 4, 2023.
