In Luxembourg: The police, well ranked in terms of preventing corruption
The Group of States against Corruption (Greco) has just adopted the second compliance report of its 5th evaluation round on Luxembourg, which concerned “the prevention of corruption and the promotion of integrity within governments concerned (top executive functions) and law enforcement agencies”. In his latest assessment, El Greco said he was “satisfied” with the Grand Ducal police, police noted in a statement. Luxembourg law enforcement took first place, with an 85% success rate of recommendations implemented (18 of the 21 recommendations made in 2018 were adopted). Greco has evaluated around fifty member countries. The implementation of a code of ethics in December 2019 is part of the measures introduced by the police.
Although the Grand Ducal Police have received high marks, their prevention of corruption and promotion of integrity does not stop there. A course on the subject has been added as part of the training of police trainees. Another course entitled “Police Ethics and Prevention of Corruption” is part of the continuous training of police officers.
A unique identification number has also been assigned to each police officer “to increase transparency towards citizens and, on the other hand, not to give the impression that the police could benefit from a certain anonymity in the execution of their missions”, justifies the police.
