City and Atlas congratulate Antwerp newcomers with integration ceremony (Antwerp)
Antwerp newcomers who recently obtained their integration certificate were honored on Thursday at the Antwerp town hall. Aldermen for Integration and Inburgering Karim Bachar (Vooruit) and mayor Bart De Wever (N-VA), among others, congratulated them for showing that they are part of our city as fully-fledged Antwerp residents.
Every year, the city of Antwerp and Atlas, the center for integration and civic integration, show their amazement at the process of paying hundreds of newcomers in our city. This was also the case this year, during an integration ceremony in the town hall. Zing Zang Zong, a multicultural children’s choir from Antwerp, provided the music during the ceremony. Aldermen for Integration and Inburgering Bachar and Mayor De Wever, among others, took the floor.
Since January 1, no less than 4,284 newcomers have lost their integration certificate, of whom about four hundred were also present during the ceremony on Thursday. “For someone, that certificate just seems like a scrap of paper,” says Karim Bachar. “But for them this is a new step, the start of a new life in our city. We can also simply provide them with that certificate in Atlas, but we choose to make it a good moment. They deserve that, their future lies here, in our city.”
