Update from December 7, 6:24 p.m.: Bad news for all Augustiner fans in Cologne: As the Bavarian brewery announced on Instagram, the opening of the brewery on Heumarkt, which was planned for December 8, 2022, has to be postponed indefinitely. “Unforeseeable structural challenges and sudden water damage delay the opening date. As soon as we have more information about the new date, it will be communicated here,” the brewery continues.
“We are very sorry for the numerous reservations in the coming days, which were already looking forward to a cool light. But I promise – we are working flat out to catch up on this as soon as possible.

The Augustiner Bräu: The brewery has been around since the 14th century
The “Augustiner Bräu” looks back on a long history. The brewery was first mentioned by name in 1328. At that time, the Augustinian hermits founded a monastery on the Haberfeld just outside Munich and later also built a brewery.
Augustiner am Heumarkt: When can you reserve?
It has been possible to reserve a table at the Augustiner am Heumarkt since the beginning of November. According to the operator, this is possible via the homepage. “At the moment, we are only accepting fixed reservations from February 1st,” Augustiner announced on Instagram at the end of September. Between 16 December and 31 January, on the other hand, reservations can only be accepted “with reservations”, “which are unfortunately void in the event of unforeseeable delays and a late opening”.

From December 8, 2022, the people of Cologne can then enjoy classic Bavarian dishes such as knuckle of pork, dumplings or white sausages in the Augustiner Bräu at Heumarkt. And there will also be Cologne specialties in the restaurant. But not only in culinary terms, the restaurant will also remind you of Bavarian culture visually. Because the restaurant should be a cozy Bavarian economy with wooden floors and wood paneling, says Leibhard.
On the occasion of the first Augustiner opening in Cologne, an opening ceremony is also planned – but not until 2023, and probably only after the carnival days in February. “Before and during it would probably not make too much sense to hold such a celebration,” explains an Augustiner spokeswoman to 24RHEIN.

But why did the Augustiner Bräu open a branch in Cologne? What speaks for the new location at Rhine? Leibhard has an answer for that, too. “Cologne is a beautiful city that has a lot in common with Munich. In Cologne, too, there is a great beer and restaurant culture, and people there like to sit together over a beer in pubs.”
With the Augustiner Bräu, the city of Cologne will soon be richer by a Bavarian inn – only at the beginning of the year also opened the Bavarian inn “Starnberger Alm” on Heumarkt.
