The freebies of the holidays in Athens
We are already a few days into the last month of the year and now they will not pass for heavy if it counts down to Christmas. This year’s holidays are just around the corner, most Christmas trees have made a grand comeback and the city has been flooded with lanterns, regal figures and all sorts of decorations. Despite this, the economic times remain difficult, so every free cultural event is more than welcome. We have collected the most interesting ones for the period of December and the holidays and present them.
“Many Star Dove” concert with Antonis Remos

“Peristeri of Many Stars”, the beautiful Christmas town, invites the citizens to photograph the Christmas Tree, on Wednesday, December 7 at 19:00 at the Town Hall Square – Peristeri Metro stop.
The city’s Christmas Tree will be lit with the cooperation of the Attica Region. The National Conservatory of Peristeri will warm up the audience before Antonis Remos appears to give a spectacular concert that will be remembered for a long time, in a night that will include all his hits.
Spiritus an urban fairy tale by bijoux de kant at the Bellos Theatre

It was once a fairy tale written by the Danish author Hans Christian Andersen. The little girl with the matches. His story was about a child’s hope and dreams on a frozen New Year’s Eve. A video art by bijoux de kant that is used as a vehicle and reconstructs H.K. Andersen’s fairy tale to trace the contemporary emotional losses and needs of the big city dwellers.
Thoughts on a match, a fairy tale, a reality, a girl sitting somewhere in the city of Athens. A girl who lacks everything and lives all alone among us, hidden but also visible in the streets of the center, clutched with the agony of a spark. A story in the form of video art, a digital urban fairy tale, filmed in the center of Athens, is presented at the Bellos Theater in Plaka, which reopens this year after years.

Christmas Oratorio with the De Profundis String Orchestra at the German Church of Athens

With the kind initiative of the Board of Directors of the Church, and especially its President, Mr. Silke Weißker-Vorgias, in collaboration with the Cantor of the Church and Artistic Director of the circle, Mr. Christos Paraskevopoulos, concerts of eminent people are held and offered to the Athenian public soloist in partnership with the string orchestra De Profundis Ensemble.
“Afternoon Music” (ABENDMUSIK) is a series of concerts first started in the 17th century in the church of St. Mary (Marienkirche) in Lübeck, Germany, by Dieterich Buxtehude (1637 – 1707). The concerts were held on Sunday afternoons and admission was free. The Evangelical Church of Athens is reviving this institution, while becoming the first Church in Greece with in-Residence.
On Sunday, December 18, Concerto for Organ and Orchestra in G Minor by George Frideric Handel (1685-1759) with Christos Paraskevopoulos on the Church Organ.
Eurydiki and Myron Stratis in Syntagma Square

On Wednesday, December 21 at 18:00 at Syntagma Square, Eurydiki and Myron Stratis will give a big concert in collaboration with the Municipality of Athens to protect Christmas in one of the city’s central spots. Take a cardigan and come early, because it’s going to be a hoot.

Holidays without music are not… holidays! Central to this year’s Christmas musical events is the Syntagma Square stage, where from December 20 to 28, there will be daily events from the Municipality of Athens. So we will have the opportunity on December 22 at 18:00 to enjoy Stavento and Ivi Adamou on stage in a fantastic show. Christmas pop up bar at SNFCC
December 23 to January 8
From December 23rd until January 8th, as part of the SNFCC’s Christmas World, the Lighthouse’s Porch is transformed into the ultimate Christmas meeting place for the municipalities of the Culture Center.
With a panoramic view of the SNFCC and the fantastic lights of Stavros Niarchos Park, an impressive pop up bar – specially designed for the holidays – makes its appearance in our city.
The 360° Christmas Pop-Up Bar, designed by the architect – scenographer Elina Loukou, proposes bright colors and abstract lines, turning the Beranda of the Lighthouse into a festive bar with a modern aesthetic. Three large colored objects, inspired by Christmas decorations, invite visitors to listen to music and look at the city through a magical Christmas filter.
The Night of Wishes in Kotzia Square

On Christmas Eve, young and old “light up” the city with our wishes and the sky in Kotzia Square is filled with the traditional lanterns of the “Night of Wishes”, while live music selections by the actors of Pepper 96.6.
It will be followed by a party of the radio station in front of the Athens City Hall to shake our body until very late.
Christmas tunes from “CHÓRES” at the Acropolis Museum
December 28
On Wednesday, December 28 at 11 am, the Women’s Vocal Ensemble CHÓRES will present traditional carols and well-known songs from the Greek and international repertoire, under the musical direction of Simela Emmanuilidou.
The concert started in collaboration with the National Opera.
Paschalis at a big concert in Peristeri

The events in the Municipality of Peristeri will be spectacular as you can imagine. On September 28, Paschalis will present “The Party going on” programmed with hits from the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s including all the Olympians’ favorite songs in his set.
Guest star of the evening will be Bessy Argyraki in a nostalgic musical partnership.
