The Christmas garbage truck is driving through the center of Prague again this year
“We introduced this tradition in the first year, i.e. at a time when covid was raging here and we wanted to make Advent and waiting for Christmas more pleasant for the people of Prague,” Prague Services spokesman Radim Mana told Novinkám.
The Christmas “cuckoo” therefore decorates the evening and night streets of the metropolis for the second time. “The cuckoo is because the cuckoo car is kind of the terminus technicus for the garbage truck,” explained Mana.
It can be seen on the streets of Prague from Sunday to Thursday between 7 pm and 2 am.
“He drives in the central part of Prague. Its route always leads through Mala Strana, Kampa, Prague Castle, Národní street, Čechův bridge and part of the Old Town,” added Radim Mana.
However, the car will also be seen outside the center when it transports cargo to the incinerator in Malešice, where mixed waste is transported.
The car set out on its route at the beginning of Advent and will be seen for the last time at the turn of the year.
Three glowing flakes hang from the sides of the vehicle. “We don’t know the exact number of lights. But we had to save money with them in the back of the vehicle, because it is mobile. It is hinged, which means that the lights could not be installed over the entire surface of the car’s hood. But we tried to use the maximum area,” explained the spokesperson of Prague Services.
Christmas decorations don’t have to be expensive. Prague’s Yellow Baths are an example

The lights are powered by a battery. “In the beginning, we had a little bit of vicissitudes with it, but after last year we already know how to do it,” added Mana.
The Christmas “cuckoo” arouses great interest among people. “People often wave at us, take pictures of us, and when we drive past pubs, they often call us,” added Jakub Čermák, the driver of the Christmas vehicle.
