Ten things to do in Vienna
Throughout the winter, Vienna is the ideal destination for a weekend. If during the Christmas festivities the scent of Christmas biscuits and hot punch in the air surround the most beautiful squares of the city with the enchanting Christmas markets where you can find the most delicious specialties and typical products of Austrian craftsmanship, in reality, what it is considered the best city to live in according to the survey by the Economist (a record achieved for the third time in 5 years) and offers many opportunities for culture and entertainment. Starting from January 2023, some anniversaries (the 300th anniversary of the Belvedere and the 150th anniversary of the Universal Exposition) are the corollary to a series of highly attractive events and in the wake of “Vision and restart – 150 years from the Universal Exhibition in Vienna”, Vienna will attract the attention of the whole world. If in 1873 a multitude of things happened in the Austrian capital – new stations, new railway lines, the birth of modern city tourism, numerous hotels, the saving of the Vienna Woods – in 2023 the city will find itself under similar auspices. The first event is scheduled for spring with a new exhibition at the Prater: “Panorama Vienna” to commemorate the legendary Rotunde, which was then considered the largest domed building in the world as well as the structural symbol of the Exhibition. The Mak – Museum of Applied Arts – is planning two exhibitions, we will talk about the trend towards oriental studies triggered by the Universal Exposition. On the way there is the new “House of Strauss”, in the historic Zögernitz Casino, which will not lack a museum, dedicated to the famous composer and spaces for concerts. Don’t miss the union between Vienna and Japan: in 1873 with the Exposition Japan presented itself to the world for the first time. And thus, in 2023, Japanese gardens, Japanese cuisine, up to special places such as the Weltmuseum Wien, will stand out.2
