Salzburg classic in summer 2023: Midsummer night’s dreams on the Salzburg
The Salzburg Classic is one of the largest classical music events in the region. Every two years, the city of Bad Neustadt and the organizer network invite you to this major event. After the cancellation in 2021 due to the pandemic, it should work again next summer. On July 29th and 30th, the curtain will rise for the new edition. The city council has cleared the way for the event and is looking forward to “Midsummer Night’s Dreams”, according to the motto of the Salzburg classic.
The new director of the vocational school for music Bad Königshofen, Elmar Koch, presented the program for the Salzburg classic 2023 to the city council. The first of the two evenings includes an opera gala conducted by Koch, with a large orchestra, soloists and, in the second part, with a large choir.
This program is offered
Opera melodies from Bizet (“Carmen”) to Weber (“Der Freischütz”) will be heard in the inner courtyard of the Salzburg on a stage that is not quite as large as in previous years. “We want to stick to the proven concept with an orchestra, a project choir and vocal soloists,” said Elmar Koch. “After the break in 2021, we want to win back and inspire the audience for the Salzburg classic.”
SWR Big Band and Max Mutzke
The second evening then belongs to Max Mutzke, who has enjoyed great popularity since taking part in the 2004 Eurovision Song Contest. Together with the SWR Big Band, Mutzke will organize the second evening of the Salzburg classic. There will be a pre-program in the Gardens of Salzburg on both evenings.
The costs for the concert event are in the six-digit range. After deducting the proceeds from sold-out events and subsidies, the city council gave its approval for a minus of 20,000 euros for the new edition. Mayor Michael Werner is looking forward to the upcoming Salzburg classic and called it a “great event for the city”.
The city wants to use the pre-Christmas period to offer classical music fans the first tickets as a possible Christmas present. Manager Rainer Warzechae assures that the tickets for the Salzburg classic will go on sale before Christmas. However, there should not be a combined ticket for both events.
