The 2022-23 Basketball Champions League regular season is heading into its hottest stage, with several teams battling to make it to the knockout stages. In week 8, two of them managed to do it.
In Group A, Luca Banchi’s SIG Strasbourg continue to win in Europe and France, extending their winning streak to five games in a row. The 82-70 win against UCAM Murcia means first place and the ticket to the next round. In Hungary, on the other hand, Falco Szombathely bids farewell to the competition after losing 77-64 to Tofas Bursa and Berk Ugurlu’s double-double.
The other team that managed to qualify in Week 8 is in Group B. Telekom Baskets Bonn, coached by its superstar TJ Shorts II, who became the only player to score 25 or more points in five games consecutive BCL matches, defeated Pinar Karsiyaka on the road to book a direct flight to the knockout stages. In Greece, after AEK fans beat fifteen Italian supporters before kick-off, the black and yellow team prevailed 68-59 against Reggio Emilia.
In group C, things get tough. Joe Ragland made history by becoming the player with the most assists in a single game (18) and in a single calendar year (158) in the BCL against Legia Warszawa. But the surprise came from Istanbul, where Galatasaray was surprised by the three-point shot from Filou Oostende and Keye van der Vuurst de Vries.
To sum up, in Group F, the new SL Benfica shines. The Portuguese team took the lead after beating and eliminating VEF Riga from the competition. BAXI Manresa, meanwhile, lost at home to Limoges CSP and will now fight not to end up in the difficult Play-Ins.
