Nationwide warning day on December 8th, 2022 also in Garbsen, Hanover and the entire Hanover region
Garbsen/Hannover region – On December 8, 2022, the nationwide warning day will take place for the second time. The federal government sends a test warning via the modular warning system (MoWaS). What’s special: for the first time, the Cell-Broadcast warning system will also be tested nationwide, in which all mobile phones that are in the territory of the Federal Republic of Germany at the time it is triggered are triggered with a warning text. The test alarm is triggered by the Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance on
Thursday, December 8, 11 a.m. – the all-clear is scheduled for 11:45 a.m.
“The region and the state capital Hanover are also looking forward to the day with excitement,” says region president Steffen Krach. “The introduction of cell broadcast is an important and long overdue step in nationwide civil protection.” start a new siren network for the state capital. The concept has been worked out and now more than 100 sirens are gradually being distributed throughout the city.”
For the surrounding area, the cities and municipalities have worked together with the Hanover region to draw up a siren register and a manual for creating alarm concepts. In addition, new systems were created with funds from the federal and state funding pot “Population warning using sirens”. “It is important that people are warned immediately in an emergency so that they can protect themselves,” emphasizes Krach.
Regional President Krach and Lord Mayor Onay recommend that residents in the state capital and region of Hanover take precautions for extraordinary situations themselves. “Everyone should have at home a battery-powered radio, a supply of water, and food to last at least a few days.”
In the spring of 2023, regional triggering of cell broadcasts should also be possible. “MoWaS convinced us because different ways of warning are possible via one system,” says Krach.
In the event of a crisis, the Hanover region and the state capital Hanover use various information channels to reach the population. In addition to triggering the warning apps, KatWarn and Nina are using both authorities on their social media channels and informing the relevant local media.
Participation at the municipal level with additional triggering of the sirens is not possible in Garbsen and many municipalities in the Hanover region, as the sirens in the region do not yet meet the necessary technical requirements. Although the sirens can be used to alert the fire brigade, central control or triggering is not possible. The procurement of new sirens for the city of Garbsen is anchored in the budget for the coming year. This means that no sirens will be heard in Garbsen on the nationwide warning day.
With the warning day, the federal government will sensitize the population to the importance of their own precautions in the event of a disaster.
