ICA Sweden must implement efficiency programs, free up resources for increased competitiveness

Sugar Mizzy December 7, 2022

ICA Sweden is launching an efficiency program to enable initiatives for higher price value and customer loyalty. In total, the program is expected to be released 1 billion kroner annually and will initially involve the removal of around 200 posts. The program is expected to be completed for the most part in 2023.

A challenging situation in the outside world with rising costs, high inflation, reduced disposable income and thus increased price awareness among customers has put both ICA dealers and ICA Sweden under severe pressure, both in terms of market shares and sales volumes.

ICA Sweden is therefore taking measures together with the ICA retailers to reverse this trend. This will be done through an efficiency program in ICA Sweden which will free up resources for a joint investment by ICA Sweden and the ICA dealers on a more competitive customer offer. The program, which is expected to release approx 1 billion kroner on an annual basis aims to reduce costs and involves an organizational overhaul which will initially involve a reduction of around 200 posts, mainly civil servants. ICA Sweden has also instituted a consultancy and employment freeze. The work to identify the 200 positions and possible restructuring costs will be carried out in the first quarter of 2023.

“The grocery store and ICA are facing a very challenging situation and as a company we need to become more cost-effective both in the short and long term. The program enables us, together with the ICA retailers, to offer a better price value for our customers and reverse the negative growth trend. requires, among other things, that we look at our organization. I really realize that this comes as tough news for ICA Sweden’s employees and of course we will offer strong support to the employees who are affected,” comments Eric LundbergCEO of ICA Sweden.

The initiatives covered by the program will enable ICA to offer lower prices to consumers and investments in ICA’s own brand products together with continued development of ICA’s loyalty program Stammis in an effort to strengthen ICA’s competitiveness and increase customer loyalty.

“ICA will always be on the side of customers, most importantly during tough economic times, and this powerful efficiency improvement program is therefore necessary for us to better meet customer needs,” adds Eric Lundberg.
