Facebook closes the office in Norway – E24
Facebook owner Meta closes the sales office in Norway. The company’s Norwegian employees are affected by mass redundancies in the giant group.
The matter is being updated…
This is confirmed by adviser Tore Becker in the PR agency Släger, on behalf of Meta Norden, in an email to E24.
The group, which is behind, among other things, Facebook and Instagram, opened its Norwegian office in May 2016.
Facebook Norway, as the company is called, currently has ten employees, according to Bizweb. They rent premises in the first office building in the Barcode row in Dronning Eufemias gate in Bjørvika. When the office opened in 2016, the office consisted of four employees, who were to serve the sales functions for the Norwegian market for Facebook.
The downsizing of the sales team in Norway is taking place despite the company delivering an annual profit of close to NOK 30.8 million in 2021. This is almost a doubling of the company’s profit in 2020.
Affected by mass redundancies
In November, it became known that Meta was laying off 11,000 employees globally. This corresponds to around 13 per cent of the employees in the giant group.
The decision to wind down operations in Norway is directly related to the mass redundancies, E24 is informed.
– This means that we have had to take a closer look at where we have people who work in sales. Unfortunately, the consequences of the current economic situation are that our entire Oslo-based sales team is affected by the downsizing, writes Becker in the email.
Over the past 24 hours, E24 has addressed a number of inquiries to Rune Paulseth, who is Meta’s Norwegian manager, but he has not answered our inquiries.
