The representative of the DZ, the Slovenian foreign minister examines Georgia’s integration into the EU, security matters
Russian aggression in Ukraine, regional challenges, Georgia’s candidacy for membership in the European Union and relations with NATO were discussed on Tuesday by the chairman of the Foreign Policy Committee of the Georgian Parliament, Nikoloz Samkharadze, and Slovenian Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon.
Samkharadze provided “comprehensive information” to Fajonov about the legislative changes implemented by the Georgian Parliament and related to the implementation of EU conditions for granting the country the status of a candidate for membership, the press service of the Parliament reported.
The parliament official also spoke about the “serious” situation in the Russian-occupied territories of Georgia and the “destructive actions” of Russia that Georgia “faces every day.”
Fajonova confirmed her “strong support” for Georgia’s territorial integrity and European and Euro-Atlantic integration, and noted that the Slovenian government supports granting the status of a candidate for EU membership.
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Slovenia reaffirmed his support for Georgia on its way to the European Union and praised the progress Georgia has made in recent years. […] I am sure that Slovenia will support the granting of candidate status to Georgia for EU membership next year,” said Samkharadze.
