Scenes of joy for Moroccan supporters in Avignon, three arrests
Morocco qualified for the first time in its history in the quarter-finals of the World Cup on Tuesday (December 6th). The supporters celebrated this achievement on the boulevard Saint-Michel in Avignon. The police had sealed off the access to the intramuros. The scenes of joy gradually gave way to moments of tension with the police.
In total three people were arrested during the evening: two for the throwing of projectiles and a final one for breaking into the Achat et Vente d’Or store on the boulevard Saint-Michel. One of the windows was destroyed and the interior was ransacked. In addition, several garbage cans were set on fire. In total, nearly 130 police officers were mobilized in Avignon.
