Portugal vs. Switzerland live: World Cup result, highlights, result of round of 16 match 2022
Portugal led Group H en route to the Round of 16 and Cristiano Ronaldo and company now meet Switzerland in their first knockout game.

1 hour 25 minutes from kick-off: More on this apparently upcoming Ronaldo bombshell. Corresponding recording Benfica striker Goncalo Ramos is set to secure the lead over the all-time leading scorer in international football. The decision comes after Santos said he was unhappy with Ronaldo’s reaction after being substituted in Portugal’s last group game against South Korea, where qualification had already been secured. Add to that his lack of action and tumultuous departure from Manchester United and the array of qualities elsewhere in the Portugal squad and this looks like footballing sanity to refrain from. Nonetheless, it remains a huge appeal.
1 hour 55 minutes from kick-off: Reports are emerging in Portugal that Ronaldo could be on the bench tonight. That would be an absolutely huge bombshell from Fernando Santos, who has been such a Ronaldo loyalist in recent years.
2h30 to go: Xherdan Shaqiri’s goal in a typically lively encounter against Serbia became the first Swiss to score in three World Cups. He is one of only three players to score in each of the last three World Cups, alongside the usual suspects Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
2 hrs 50 mins from kick-off: Both Portugal and Switzerland will be pretty happy with what is currently unfolding in Morocco against Spain. It’s 0-0 and they would enjoy playing the winner after overtime. In this hour is approaching and you can follow all the action here.
🪄 Sofiane Boufal of Morocco completed five successful dribbles in the first half of the round of 16 clash against Spain.

3 hrs 30 mins from kick-off: When Portugal’s World Cup streak ends tonight, Ronaldo will turn his attention to his ongoing joblessness. Don’t worry, there seems to be quite an extensive offer on the table…
With a reported move to Saudi Arabia, Cristiano Ronaldo is facing a $96M pay rise 🤯

4 hours after kick-off: This game will not cause any fear to the Swiss team, which is one of the most cohesive units in the international game. They are a generation that has belonged together for a long time and this is the fifth consecutive Major tournament they have progressed through the group stage. They stunned world champions France in the Euro 2020 round of 16 before pushing Spain to the abyss and ultimately losing on penalties.
🙌 Here is the goal that sealed it for Switzerland.
👀 They have now qualified from their group at the last five major international tournaments.
🤔 How far will they go? #FIFA World Cup

4 hrs 30 mins to go: We are still a long way from the sides to be announced for this clash but it seems almost certain that Ronaldo will be in the line-up even though he has been in the last 25 minutes of the duel against South Korea was spared.

5 hours after kick-off: Cristiano Ronaldo is back in the World Cup knockout stages and determined to end his goal drought after the group stage. He’s attempted 25 shots in his career in the latter stages of this tournament but he’s yet to find the net. Can he shoot Portugal past Switzerland?
25 – Cristiano Ronaldo 🇵🇹 has not scored with any of his 25 shots in the knockout rounds at the World Cup, only Roberto Carlos 🇧🇷 (29) has attempted more shots without scoring in the knockout round since at least 1966 round of the tournament. Challenge. pic.twitter.com/epw25WXqzk
