MEP Eugen Tomac: the Republic of Moldova without Romania can hardly resist any challenges, no matter how ambitious the politicians are to create a different reality
“I think that the words of former Prime Minister Mircea Druc remain as current: Don’t talk about Union, unite! I think that matters most these days.”
“The reality on the ground confirms to us that the Republic of Moldova without Romania has a very hard time resisting any challenges, no matter how ambitious the politicians are to create a different reality. Sooner or later my conviction is that we will not find it together, because only together we have the possibility to face the difficulties and build a future that is worthy and able to impose itself. We are an old European nation, with an old culture, with things that we can present to anyone with important achievements, what matters at the moment is not to lose our temper and try to look with simplicity and depth in time. , the things that define us. And these are the things related to faith, linguistic identity, common affinities on common values, and these are not lacking in either part of the Prut. The problem is strictly related to the inability of politicians on both sides to understand that this brake that we impose on ourselves is harmful.”
“I was a history graduate. And I’ve always liked things clear. I always felt that around me there was too much falsehood related to the identity of the Moldovans, related to the approach to this relationship. It seems to me that we live in a permanent fake-news. And then from a civic duty, it became a political duty and today an institutional duty. I believe that this is the role of a politician, to continuously have ideals to fight for with medium and long-term impact in order to achieve the goals we undertake”.
