In Lyon, the legal clinic trains future legal practitioners
Promoting access to law, putting students’ knowledge into practice are the foundations of legal clinic created in 2018, by Olivier Gouttethe current dean of the law faculty of Jean-Moulin Lyon 3 University.
“We want to make the law clinic in Lyon better known by meeting the public. Our characteristic in Lyon is that we are generalists in our approach, because we have a wide range of specialties available to our patients, compared to other more specialized clinics”, explains Valentine Thibault, co-president of the association. of the Legal Clinic.
The legal clinic reaches out to litigants
The association intends to travel to several places in Lyon, as soon as on the campus of theemlyon to meet audiences likely to have specific needs and who, at the student stage, did not ask for the means to secure the means of a lawyer.
“Please note, we do not replace law firms. Our free consultations are used to raise awareness, inform and guide the litigant. On specific expertise, we advise our patients to meet with this or that firm”, warns the co-president.
How does the legal clinic work?
The legal clinic is managed by student lawyers from the master’s degree in law and from the Lyon Law School, Edara. 200 students, on a voluntary basis, follow one another to hold sessions (without appointment, on simple presentation at the tobacco factory, Tuesday between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.). For appointments, those wishing to do so must register on the website of the legal clinic (clinicjuridique.univ-lyon3.fr) detailing their problem.
